About Journey & Joy

My mission is to guide children on their unique journey of learning by creating a warm, supportive environment where curiosity leads the way. Establishing a strong foundation through play-based experiences, children will grow in confidence, discover their strengths, and develop a lifelong love of learning.

At Journey & Joy, I believe that children are naturally curious. They are capable and eager to learn. I believe that every child deserves to be seen, heard, valued, and loved for exactly who they are and not for who someone else thinks they should be.

"Play is the work of the child." ~Maria Montessori

Daily Rhythms

A "daily rhythm" at Journey & Joy is intentionally different from a traditional school schedule. Rather than moving children through a series of timed subjects, our days flow through a predictable and nurturing rhythm that allows for curiosity, creativity, connection, and deep exploration. Inspired by Reggio Emilia, Montessori, and Waldorf philosophies, I believe children learn best when they are given the time, space, and support to follow their interests, engage in meaningful experiences, and develop at their own pace.

About Me

I have been married for almost 30 years and am the proud mom of three adult children and grammy to one precious grandson. Working with children has been a part of my life for more than 30 years. My experience includes operating an in-home daycare and preschool when my children were young, homeschooling my children for over 20 years, leading co-ops, assisting at a local preschool and teaching survival swim lessons to young children in our community for the past nine years.

Hi! I'm Jolene Berger, or as the kids call me, Ms. Jo!
